Resources for Current Students

Lots of opportunities and resources exist for engineering students at Benedictine College. Here are just a few…

Clubs

Get involved! Check out these student organizations specifically for engineering majors.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter builds community throughout the School of Engineering and puts on various events to enrich student education. ASME hosts companies to give presentations and recruit students for internships and full-time jobs, holds career-focused events on developing resumes, finding scholarships, and attending career fairs, hosts movie nights, holds charity bed build days with the School of Engineering Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter, and helps keep the School of Engineering well fed through various picnics and barbeques. Chapter officers also provide plenty of opportunities for fun with potato cannon marksmanship contests and go kart races. For more information, contact Marco Kouatly.

AIChE Student Chapter

Chartered in 2018, the Benedictine College AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineering) Student Chapter is an association of chemical engineering majors. All interested engineering majors are welcome to join. Contact Matthew Conner for more information.

ASCE Student Chapter

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) provides “knowledge and opportunities you’ll need to jump into the industry, get on the right career path, and have fun doing it.” The Benedictine College chapter has many ways for you to get involved including: K-12 outreach activities to local schools, leadership training opportunities, social events with other student chapters, and annual participation in the ASCE regional student competitions, including the concrete canoe competition. Please contact our student chapter president, Ethan Phibbs, for more information.

Projects

Want to get your hands dirty on a project in true engineering fashion? Many teams would be glad of an extra pair of hands. Or maybe you already have an idea of your own! The School of Engineering encourages students to get involved in hands-on projects. Talk to your advisor about your interest and ideas.

Mission trips

Interested in going on mission? Join your fellow ravens in using your engineering skills to help others.

Tutoring

Need homework help? Come visit the engineering tutors! During the academic year, they are found in Westerman from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. If these times don’t work, you can also make an appointment. You can also make an appointment by contacting Jann McGregor, Administrative Assistant for the School of Engineering.

Work-Study

Looking for a work-study job? Or just want to make some extra cash? The School of Engineering depends on student employees as shop stewards, graders, tutors and more. If interested, contact Jann McGregor or Dr. Charles Sprouse.

Other Resources

On Canvas, you should have access to a “class” called “Engineering Student Resources.” There you can find many useful links including information on using the shop and the 3D printers.
